KOPAČKI RIT NATURE PARK
It is located in the outermost east part of Croatia, in Baranja, and is one of the best preserved European swamp areas. Throughout the year, there are cca 270 bird species here and it is a thrue ornithological paradise.Kopački rit is a natural swamp reservation located at the river basis of Drava flowing into Danube with a flooded area of cca 17.000 ha. In 1967, it was declared a protected area, and in 1976, a reservation. The reason for this is that it has cca 40 species of fresh water fish and one of the biggest natural hatching grounds in central Europe. They are cca 267 species of swamp birds among which specially valuable: white-tailed sea eagle, black stork, white heron, various wild ducks, wild geese, white swan.Endless reeds, swamps and ponds area an ideal habitat for a wel known Baranja deer, doe, boar, wildcat, rabbit, fox, badger, pheasants and pine martens. Kopački rit has an international significance. It is registered under «Area of ornithological significance» and also under «Ramsar area», which means that it is enlisted as the swamp of international significance.
